Condition: Good to Fair; w/ strong signs of age; Wing & Allen's Gem Album with 45 Tintypes in various condition ranging from Good to Fair; All tintypes show normal signs of age & some show signs of damage. Dimensions: The album is 3" inches x 3 1/2" inches; the individual tintypes are approximately 3/4 of an inch. The album is completely bound; the inside cover of the album shows a handwritten inscription with a person/ owner's name and "San Francisco, Cal." Pages of the album's paper shows signs of age, foxing (brown spotting). Date: Circa Mid to late 1870's.
About Simon Wing: Wing & Allen's Ferrotype Gallery opened in San Francisco on Kearny Street in 1873. Simon Wing worked in photography all of his life on both the East and West Coast, and made numerous important contributions to the world of photography. Wing is also noted as a photographic supplier in the 1910 census, and in 1892 ran for the US presidency.
