Margaret Taylor Burroughs' Lithograph Print of Linocut, titled “Mother Africa." To Leslie Ware and Family” and the artist’s signature "M Burroughs 1993” is written in the border of the recto.

About The Artist: Margaret Taylor Burroughs (American; 1915 – 2010) was an African-American artist, writer, educator and a co-founder of the DuSable Museum in Chicago. The DuSable is the nation’s oldest independent African American Museum. Burroughs was also instrumental in establishing the South Side Community Arts Center (Chicago). She earned both her BA and MA at the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1940’s. Burroughs traveled to Mexico City in the 1950’s and spent time as a guest artist at the Esmeralda School of Art and “TGP” (Printmaker’s Collective). She is the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate Degree as well as the President’s Humanitarian Award (1975). Burroughs received many accolades for her work in the art community and her artwork can be found in numerous museum collections.
